Overview

ArteKino 2025

Through its four programming strands -ArteKino Selection, ArteKino Classics, ArteKino Focus, and ArteKino Festival -ArteKino celebrates the richness and diversity of European cinema, offering audiences a carefully curated selection of both contemporary and classic films. This year, the consortium behind the initiative -ARTE GEIE, ARTE France Cinéma, and the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes – presents a compelling lineup, spanning from timeless masterpieces to bold new voices in filmmaking. ArteKino Festival showcases contemporary gems such as Yo la Busco by Sara Gutiérrez Galve (2018) and Remember To Blink by Austeja Urbaite (2022), highlighting the fresh perspectives of a new generation of directors. ArteKino Classics revisits cinematic treasures like Stars (1959) by Konrad Wolf, Robert Enrico’s The Old Gun (1975) and Vulo Radev’s The Peach Thief (1964), as well as Why not? (1977) by Coline Serreau. Meanwhile, ArteKino Selection brings thought-provoking works such as Moral Order (2020) by Mario Barosso, Hotel (2004) by Jessica Haussner, and Innocence (2004) by Lucile Hadžihalilović, starring Marion Cotillard. With more than 100 hours of programming subtitled in English, Spanish, Italian, and Polish (in addition the French and German) all available online for free, ArteKino strives to engage and inspire audiences across Europe. A strong commitment to female filmmakers is also at the heart of the initiative, with over 50% of the films in ArteKino Selection and ArteKino Festival directed by talented women. We also highlight the work of female filmmakers in our Classics programming, featuring directors such as Márta Mészáros last year. Thanks to meticulous editorial curation and targeted communication efforts, ArteKino has continued to expand its reach, recording a 61 % growth in audience engagement in 2025.
ArteKino is proud to be supported by the European Union’s “Creative Europe Media” programme.
